Changes in health care delivery and technology have extended care beyond the walls of the hospital. Acute care in the home addresses factors patients care most about: convenience, cost, and personalization. To provide this innovative, accessible care model, healthcare organizations should consider implementing technology-assisted solutions that enable in-home acute care delivery. December 17, 2020 12 PM ET – Community as Medicine – Virtual Group Medical Visits

Group medical visits (shared medical appointments) have been growing in popularity with increasing evidence of their impact on patient outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the adoption curve with telemedicine, and many health care professionals are asking how the group visit model can be adapted to the telehealth environment.

Dr. Reims will discuss innovations and considerations for hosting group visits in the COVID and post COVID environment. Dr. Markle will present a case study for how a community-based nonprofit organization partners with health care organizations to support group visits in a virtual environment, and share insights gained from this powerful model of care delivery. Implications for deepening clinic-community integration and pathways to virtual group medical visit adoption will be explored, and the presentations will be followed by a facilitated dialogue with the audience.

  • The Telehealth Landscape is About to Change
by Christian Milaster on November 24, 2020 at 7:14 am

These days, there are surely some interesting dynamics at play. And no, I’m not talking about the post-election dynamics or the holidays during a full-blown health crisis. I am talking about the forces at play at this very moment, preparing for the inevitable time later in 2021 when politics and everyday life are for [...] The post The Telehealth Landscape is About to Change appeared first on Ingenium Digital Health Advisors.

  • Telehealth Success is not about Clinical Outcomes
by Christian Milaster on November 17, 2020 at 5:19 am

I’d be the first to tell you that anything we do in healthcare has to focus on achieving positive clinical outcomes. And, just like any other care delivery modality, that includes telehealth. But Telehealth Success is not about Clinical Outcomes. Measuring Clinical Outcomes For 33 years I’ve been involved in using technology and workflow [...] The post Telehealth Success is not about Clinical Outcomes appeared first on Ingenium Digital Health Advisors.

  • 3 Must-Dos to Prepare for Ransomware Attacks
by Aubrey Carampatana on November 10, 2020 at 7:07 am

It's heartbreaking, frightening and infuriating to realize that with a stroke of an enter key a hacker thousands of miles away can shut down access to critical care. And it’s not a question of “IF”, but only a question of “WHEN” this will affect your organization. So what must healthcare leaders direct the organization [...] The post 3 Must-Dos to Prepare for Ransomware Attacks appeared first on Ingenium Digital Health Advisors.

CMS Finalizes Home Health Rule Permanently Expanding Home Health Telehealth

Key Takeaway: The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized the CY2021 Home Health and Home Infusion Therapy final rule, permanently expanding the benefit provided under COVID-19 allowing Home Health agencies to utilize telehealth for Medicare beneficiaries.

Why It Matters: The final rule continues to advance the Trump Administration’s work on making the telehealth flexibilities provided under the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency permanent in limited circumstances. In this case, the remote patient monitoring furnished by telehealth must be included on the patient’s plan of care.

CMS Finalizes Fourth COVID-19 Interim Final Rule Focused on Vaccines

Key Takeaway: In CMS’ fourth COVID-19 interim final rule, the agency focuses on ensuring access to a potential vaccine for patients and outlines reimbursement guidelines for both private and public payers.

Why It Matters: The rule requires private payers to begin covering a vaccine within 15 days of the CDC qualifying a vaccine for use and details that the vaccine will be covered at no-cost to the patient under Medicare Part B. Also contained within the rule are requirements to increase the price transparency of COVID-19 diagnostic testing.

CMS Issues Payer Price Transparency Final Rule

Key Takeaway: CMS completed the Trump Administration’s push for price transparency on Thursday, issuing a final rule geared towards payers requiring them to offer an online shopping tool and to post updated data files online.

Why It Matters: Previously, hospitals were required to begin posting pricing information online starting Jan. 1, 2021. This newly released rule now requires payers to make detailed price information public by January 1, 2022 in a machine readable data file.

New Listserv for Rural Populations

Key Takeaway: CMS has created a rural healthcare listserv in order to share resources, policies, programs, and other information to better serve healthcare systems in rural areas. To subscribe to this listserv, enter your email here.

Why It Matters: This listserv serves to provide information unique to providing healthcare in rural areas. Topics include CMS rural healthcare strategy, maternal healthcare, payment and billing, policies and regulation.

DEA Expands Access to MAT

Key Takeaway: The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) released an interim final rule expanding access to medication assisted therapy (MAT) by giving providers the ability to expand the number of patients they can treat with MAT to 100 and allowing pharmacies to dispense MAT.

Why It Matters: The rule moves changes that have been in effect for the previous two years due to the SUPPORT Act into formal regulation.
